Terms and Conditions

Thanks for reading our Terms and Conditions! We hate to get all serious, but as we are a small company delivering hand made products to a small margin, we have to make a few things clear. Any questions please ask! We are always happy to help.

1. Payments & Pricing

  • Deposit: A 70% deposit is required upon placing your order, with the remaining balance due before delivery. Cash on Delivery (COD) may be accepted by prior arrangement.
  • Order Processing: Work begins only after we receive your Proof of Payment and signed quotation at orders@mtkpdesigns.co.za.
  • Validity: Quotations are valid for 14 days. Prices are subject to change thereafter based on material costs.
  • Errors: We reserve the right to correct pricing or typographical errors and update or cancel orders if information is inaccurate.

2. Refunds, Returns & Alterations

  • Custom/Bespoke Goods: No returns, cancellations, or refunds once production has started. Ensure all measurements, designs, and details are correct before ordering.
  • Standard Products: Non-custom items listed on our site may be returned within 14 days of receipt. Returns incur a 30% restocking fee (covering admin, handling, and storage), plus original delivery and collection costs.
  • Damaged or Faulty Items: We will repair or replace defective goods. You must inspect items upon delivery and report damage in writing with photos within 7 days.
  • Proof of Delivery: If you sign the delivery note without noting damage, we cannot issue repairs or refunds for transit damage.
  • Design Changes: Additional drawings or design alterations requested after order placement will incur additional fees.

3. Delivery & Access

  • Access Checks: You are responsible for ensuring items fit through doors, corridors, and stairwells. Failed deliveries due to access issues, along with any necessary modifications or re-delivery fees, will be billed to you.
  • Delivery Fees & Delays: Delivery dates are estimates. We are not liable for delays caused by third-party hauliers. Extra charges apply for difficult access (e.g., multiple flights of stairs, long carry distances), missed delivery slots, or delayed unloading (charged at R100 per 30 minutes of waiting time).
  • Assisted Offloading: For large or heavy items, you may be required to arrange extra personnel to help unload. Drivers may refuse delivery if adequate assistance is not provided.
  • Collections: Workshop collections must be arranged in advance and require full payment prior to pickup.

4. Materials, Tolerances & Care

  • Natural Wood Variations: Wood is a natural product containing knots, cracks, grain variations, and saw marks. These inherent traits are not considered defects and do not qualify for discounts, returns, or refunds.
  • Environmental Factors: Wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in humidity and temperature. We dry our timber to 8–10% moisture, but we are not responsible for warping or cracking caused by extreme environments. Indoor furniture is not suitable for outdoor or high-moisture areas (e.g., bathrooms) unless explicitly designed for them.
  • Sizing & Tolerances: Timber thicknesses (e.g., 25mm, 32mm, 50mm) refer to starting sizes; finished products will be slightly thinner. Unless exact precision is requested for built-in spaces, allow a tolerance of +/- 25mm (or 5%) on overall dimensions.
  • Maintenance: Finishes (such as hard wax oils) require regular maintenance (e.g., re-coating dining tables every 6 months) to remain protected.

5. Custom Designs & Safety

  • Custom Specifications: When producing items to client-provided drawings, MTKP Designs is not liable for structural or functionality issues unless testing was commissioned. Unspecified design elements will be resolved at our professional discretion.
  • Weight & Wall Anchoring: Furniture can be heavy. We strongly recommend anchoring shelving, cabinets, and tall units to a wall. You are responsible for checking wall suitability; MTKP Designs is not liable for damage resulting from customer installation.
